HISTORY - ORIGIN - CULTURE

In history long past, the Fjalar were once a mighty and proud race of Dwarves known as the FlintJaws. Living atop the great mountains of Karascar they built grand towers of obsidian stone and Iron the likes of never seen before. Their city was beautiful in the sun, a luster of black and red, and sparkled by moonlight with the shimmering of thousands of gems.

Above them though, a jealous god was watching.

Fyoy, one of the mighty storm gods, could not bear the sight of their success, and wanting it all for himself hatched a plan to make it all his own.

After months of preparation, Fyoyi gathered all his strength and launched his plan. Descending on the mountain as a thick ethereal fog, Fyoy swallowed the city and all its inhabitants whole, transforming them into creatures worthy of sky and storm. So consumed was he by his ambition, Fyoy paid no heed to their cries and prayers to Dymentos. Awakening drained, Fyoy panicked at the imminent arrival of Dymentos and called upon his brothers in arms for his protection.

What followed was a battle that shook the very mountains, and at the end lay dead, Fyoy and Demi-Gods of the storm. Dymentos, enraged at the sacrilegious forms before him began to lay waste to the newly formed Fjalar. Raining down fire and violence, he slew the Bird Folk by the thousands and crushed their city to dust.

The only ones to escape ran to the mightiest of the storm gods, Lordane and pleaded his mercy. Lordane, wishing to not be involved in the conflict had not acted until this time, taking mercy on the surviving Fjalar he hid them until Dymentos' fury subsided.

After this time he returned them to the mountain and cast upon it a storm so mighty it hid the Fjalar from sight to all including the gods.

Centuries later the storms subsided, leaving the mountain eroded to a sharp peak now known in current times as StarWrend Peak, the place were the Fjalar still live.

Fjalar society is a strange one. Once a Dwarven people, the Fjalar retained the desire to build and construct, but instead of seeking below the ground, they now seek to the sky for their inspiration. Fjalar society is an odd mix of civility and wild naturalism. Fjalar society seems to focus on merit and worth, with each member seeking to fulfil roles that benefit the whole over the singular. As ranking goes up, specific Fjalar are recognized for their talent or skill and become leaders to the flock in whatever way they can benefit.
